Cape Town is booming in popularity as a world destination. Partly because it is rightly regarded as one of the world’s most beautiful cities, but also because of the weak local exchange rate (that follows our incumbent President and the ruling party like a rash). But beyond the beauty and where to spend their dollars, tourists can open their eyes and see how South Africa, one of the biggest world news stories of the 1990s, has evolved since. Or not, as you see in this iphone picture taken from a car. This is a slice of Khayelitsha, a township of mostly shacks that has grown to house almost 2 million people since the 1990s. There are some great things happening in there, that will lift any spirit. Brilliant human projects that can be tied into iconic Cape Town, giving the tourist the full picture of this remarkable city – in the process providing work, filling hearts, and depositing in your awareness and empathy account.
